Safety

It is the homeowner’s responsibility to be aware of and adhere to all applicable local and national building codes for roofing system installation requirements and limitations in his/her geographical area.

ROOFING IS A PHYSICALLY ENGAGING ACTIVITY. IF YOU ARE NOT PHYSICALLY CAPABLE AND COMPETENT, PLEASE CONTACT A PROFESSIONAL ROOFING CONTRACTOR.

A few things to consider:

  • Read the labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) on all adhesive, primer and sealant containers for applicable Warnings and Precautions. These materials are extremely flammable. Care must be taken to avoid open flames. Do not smoke when using these products. View SDS.
  • Adhesives should be used in a well ventilated area. Avoid inhalation of any fumes. Close windows and fresh-air-intake vents to prevent fumes from entering the home.
  • Avoid adhesive contact with skin and eyes. Protective clothing and equipment (safety glasses) should be worn.
  • Read all ladder manufacturer’s safety and warning instructions. Surfaces will be slippery when wet or frost covered. Always work with a partner, and never with your back to the roof’s edge!
  • When installing fasteners into the roof deck, be sure to avoid any electrical wiring or plumbing pipes/fixtures.
  • Do not install GenTite membrane directly in contact with new or re-saturated asphalt products.
  • Do not expose membrane or accessories to temperatures of 180°F or above.
  • Re-roofing over a wet substrate is not good roofing practice. All wet materials should be replaced prior to the installations of roofing membrane.
  • All adhesive applications should occur at a temperature of 50°F and rising.
  • We recommend a minimum positive drainage of 1/8″ in 12″ in order to avoid ponding water.
  • GenTite adhesives have been tested to ensure compatibility with GenTite EPDM and TPO Roofing Membranes. Use of non-GenTite products, including oil or bituminous-based roof cements or coatings, will void the warranty.
